Capturing images of birds is an engaging but difficult photographic pursuit. Getting the ideal shot of a bird requires careful observation of its habits and routines. It’s also important to recognize the many outstanding photographers who specialize in photographing birds.
To promote and honor outstanding avian photographers, the “Bird Photographer of the Year” hosts a yearly competition. Over 20,000 photographs were submitted by photographers worldwide hoping to win the £5,000 first prize.
A shot of a rock ptarmigan in its winter plumage taking flight above the snow-covered mountains of Tysfjord by the Norwegian photographer Erlend Haarberg was deemed the “winner” in the competition. Below is a gallery showcasing the 2022 winning submissions.
