Artist Gab Bois makes works of food-based art. Miniature versions of her edible couches have gone viral on the internet because of their adorableness and originality.
“I’ve always been drawn to food as a subject of inspiration,” the artist told DeMilked. My father was instrumental in changing my perspective on food. As a kid, he would make mealtimes much more entertaining by creatively arranging the foods on my plate. He would tell me tales while he sculpted my food into adorable faces and shapes. That added a great touch to my meal and made it something I’ll never forget. As a side benefit, I learned that becoming playful with your food doesn’t have to equate to wasteful or disrespectful behavior.
Bois explained that her work is idea-based and that photography is the best approach to record her creative process quickly and easily. Although I lack formal photography training, I want to maintain an intuitive system throughout my workflow. I’m happy that my lifelong desire to express my creativity has manifested itself in the shape of a profession, but I could never have imagined it that way.
The artist described how “playfulness” and “problem-solving” factor into her creative process. She continued, “It’s the most wonderful sensation to have an idea come into your brain and then transform that concept into something practical.”
